Companion Dog Program
Sometimes a dog has everything except one thing needed for full public-access certification—maybe temperament, maybe a minor health issue. That doesn’t mean they can’t make a beautiful difference in someone’s life. Our Companion Dogs program places these special dogs with people who want support, comfort, and companionship—without the requirement for public access or full-time working duties.

What Is a Companion Dog
-
A Companion Dog is a dog from our Fully Trained Program who, for whatever reason, cannot complete all the steps toward full certification.
-
They may have great obedience, strong temperament, but not quite meet the public access standards, or have minor health considerations that make constant, demanding work less suitable.
-
These dogs are a great fit for individuals or families who need support at home, emotional or mental health benefits, or routine companionship rather than always being in public settings.
Who Might Benefit
Companion Dogs are wonderful for people who:
-
Seek emotional support, stress or anxiety relief, or help with mental health well-being.
-
Don’t need their dog to accompany them in every public place.
-
Want a trained, reliable, loving partner at home or in familiar environments.
-
Appreciate dog companionship and support but do not require full service dog certification.
What to Expect
-
Each Companion Dog has received substantial training through Aspen, including manners, socialization, obedience, and support for a calm, predictable lifestyle.
-
While these dogs are not certified for full public access, many do very well in pet-friendly places, in homes, and in private settings.
-
You will receive support from our team as part of the application process to help ensure the dog is well matched to your lifestyle and needs.
How It Works
- Contact Us / WaitlistReach out to express your interest in our Companion Dog program. We’ll discuss your situation, goals, and whether a Companion Dog may be the right fit. Because availability depends on our current training program, there is typically a waiting list for placements.
- Matching & AssessmentWhen a potential match becomes available, we’ll carefully review the dog’s temperament, background, and personality alongside your lifestyle and needs to ensure a good fit.
- Meet & GreetYou’ll be invited to meet the dog and spend time together in a relaxed environment. This visit allows both you and the dog to get to know each other and confirm compatibility before any commitment is made.
- AdoptionOnce a match is confirmed, ownership of the dog is transferred to you. Our team provides all relevant health and training records at the time of adoption.
